Art has long been used to tell stories, to take people to worlds that exist solely in the mind of the artist, until that creator exhibits them. I seek to be one of those artists - a creator of worlds and an explorer of imaginary landscapes. My work currently takes the form of the adventures of the Travelling Man, an avatar created to explore the world I have imagined, discover strange objects and interact with its various and strange inhabitants.
My work asks the big question – what makes something a work of art? What raises a water pot, a weapon or a Wiccan Wand from a purely functional or religious object to the status of art? In my curated spaces I deliberately create and collect objects,which are based on cultural items, but which are intended for an artistic use not a functional use. Then, as with anthropological and ethnographical collections, they are displayed as parts of an exhibition, but in my case they become parts of a whole art work.
